Creating a Payment Method

A step-by-step guide to setting up payments and understanding Test Mode.

How to Create a Payment Method

1. Log in to the Portal

Go to portal.flik.co.nz and log in with your credentials.

2. Locate the Sidebar

On the left-hand side of the screen, you will see a navigation sidebar.

3. Navigate to Payment Methods

In the sidebar menu, find and click on Payment Methods. This will take you to the page where you can manage your payment options.

4. Add a New Method

Click the New Payment Method button.

5. Enter Details

Fill in the required details:

  • Bank: Select your bank from the dropdown menu.
  • Account Number: Your bank account number.
  • Account Name: The Organisation Name that appears when customers are paying.
  • Payment Method Name: An internal name to help you remember which payment method this is (e.g., "Business Account").
  • Test Mode: Enable this if you want to use this payment method in Test Mode.

6. Save

Click Add to create the payment method.

7. Save Your Credentials (For Website Integration)

After entering your details, a Client ID and Client Secret will appear in the side panel.

Important: If you plan to integrate Flik with your website, you must save these credentials now. They will not be accessible later.

If you only plan to use Payment Links or Payment Squares, you can skip this—these credentials are not needed.

Understanding Test Mode

Flik offers two ways to use Test Mode:

Global Test Mode

In the sidebar, you can toggle Test Mode on. This puts the entire portal into test mode, meaning all transactions initiated while this is on will be treated as test transactions, regardless of the payment method used.

Test Payment Methods

When creating a payment method, you can enable the Test Method switch within the creation form. This creates a specific "Test" payment method. Transactions made using this specific method will always be test transactions.

Tip: It is recommended to use both Global Test Mode and a Test Payment Method when testing to ensure no real money is moved.
